(QINGDAO, July 31) -- The government of Qingdao enacted a complete ban on smoking in public places from August 1 until September 30. The maximum penalty for violating this ban is 2,000 yuan.
This ban, which places an emphasis on the eight largest public areas, is effective in sports stadiums and spectator seating, theaters, exhibition halls, libraries, enterprises, teaching and training institutions, indoor medical facilities, elevators and public transportation vehicles, commercial centers, financial institutions, post offices, telecommunication outlets, and all lobbies open to public use.
Currently, Qingdao taxis, station terminals, seaports, and other places have already been marked as smoking-prohibited areas. If the public notices that these designated areas have not been clearly marked as such, they are encouraged to inform the government. Employers and organizations that do not develop anti-smoking measures, non-smoking signs, and discourage smoking in public areas will be charged with a maximum penalty of 2,000 Yuan.
