Sports career:
Began swimming training in Shanghai Sports Club in 1978, breaking national records for different age group on 18 occasions. Selected as a member of the Shanghai municipal swimming team in 1984. Joined the national team for intensified training in 1986.

1987 Pan-Pacific Swimming Championships - 3rd 4x100m medley relay
1988 Asian Championships - 1st 50m freestyle (24.98 WR), 100m backstroke (1:03.08, Asian best), 4x100m medley relay and 4x100m freestyle relay
