On 3 June 2005, Liu Peng, Director of the General Administration of Sport and President of the Chinese Olympic Committee, had a meeting in Beijing with Alex Gilady, IOC member in Israel and Vice President of NBC Sports since 1981.
Liu Peng extended a warm welcome to the Israeli IOC member who has given his help and support to Beijing for its Olympic bid in 2001. As an IOC member and NBC vice president, Liu noted, Mr Gilady has been working hard in various Olympic-related fields and has contributed to Beijing¡¯s preparations for media service during the 2008 Games.
Alex Gilady gave a brief account of NBC¡¯s development over the past nine years. According to him, NBC has increased its total length of Olympic broadcasting from 187 hours in Atlanta in 1996 to 1,210 hours in Athens in 2004, plus a lot more choices of channels and programmes for TV spectators across the world.
Liu Peng wished NBC success in its Olympic broadcasting at Beijing 2008.
Present at the meeting was Gu Yaoming, head of the GASC External Affairs Department and Secretary-General of the Chinese Olympic Committee.
