(Beijing, February 21) Liu Peng, Director of the General Administration of Sport of China (GASC) and President of the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC), met with Ms. Jet Bussemaker, state secretary for health, welfare and sport of the Netherlands in Beijing on Thursday.

Liu noted the increasingly close communication between high-ranking officials and the deep friendship between the peoples of the two countriees had lubricated the exchanges and coordination between the two sports circles.

As a sports powerhouse, the Netherlands remained competitive in many sports and had also accumulated a wealth of experience in mass sports development which was worth learning by the Chinese, Liu said.

He also expressed his appreciation to Jet Bussemaker for her position in opposing linking politics to the Beijing Olympic Games which was against the Olympic spirit.

Bussemaker said that she was impressed with Beijing's preparatory work for the 2008 Olympic Games and that she believed the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games would be a resounding success.
