
9 January 2012, Beijing - On 6 January, Liu Peng, Minister in charge of the General Administration of Sport and President of the Chinese Olympic Committee, met with the visiting President General of Youth Welfare and President of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee, HRH Prince Nawaf Faisal Fahd Abdulaziz, in Beijing.
Based on the principle of developing the strategic friendly relations between China and Saudi Arabia, Liu Peng said, the Chinese sports authorities encourage its sports associations to carry out more exchange and cooperation programs with their Saudi Arabian counterparts, so as to promote understanding and friendship between the two sports circles.
Prince Nawaf spoke highly of the successful hosting of both the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, hoping that the sports cooperation and development of the friendly relations between China and Saudi Arabia would set an example to other countries and regions in Asia.
After the meeting the two sides signed the Agreement on Sports Cooperation between the Saudi Arabian and Chinese governments.
