21 February 2012, Beijing - China's Minister in charge of the General Administration of Sport (GASC) and President of the Chinese Olympic Committee Liu Peng met with the visiting Romanian delegation headed by Octavian Morariu, President of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, in Beijing on 20 February 2012. On behalf of their respective NOCs, the two sports leaders also signed the Memorandum of Understanding on sports cooperation between China and Romania.
Liu Peng extended a warm welcome to the Romanian guests, and the two discussed such issues of common interest as sports for all, youth sports and sports scientific research. Liu Peng noted that over the past six decades ever since the establishment of their diplomatic relations, China and Romania have strengthened ties in political, economic and cultural fields, which have in turn helped promote their exchanges and cooperation in sports. He believed that with the signing of this MOU the two sides would work more closely to promote sports development in their own countries.
The Romanian NOC president said that China has gained rapid progress in sports as well as in its overall development, particularly in the recent few years after the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. It is his hope that his country could work with China not only in competitive sports but also in sports scientific research.
Present at the meeting was Song Luzeng, Director of the GASC External Affairs Department and Secretary-General of the Chinese Olympic Committee.
