16 Sep 2014 - Amman, Jordan, September 15, 2014: The First Vice President of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees (UANOC), Shaikh Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa of Bahrain, chaired the Union's Extraordinary General Assembly in Amman.
Shaikh Isa was joined at the meeting by Bahrain Olympic Committee General Secretary Abdulrahman Askar and sports advisor Abduljalil Asad.
The meeting discussed a number of subjects aimed at developing sport in the Arab region. Prince Nawaf bin Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was voted the new President of UANOC, replacing the outgoing President, Prince Talal bin Bader Al Saud.
A new strategic plan submitted by a group of experienced Arab sports officials, headed by Dr Ahmed Al Sharif of the UAE, is tasked at setting up a comprehensive plan to boost sport and programmes in regards to organising sports competitions.
It also targets major development in administration, media and marketing, as well as a plan to establish an Arab Olympic Academy.
UAE NOC representative Nada Askar made a presentation on the preparations for the Arab Women's Clubs Games in Sharjah in 2016.
