The 16th Mediterranean games kick off in three weeks time

Rome, 4th June – The Med’ Games have been launched! The heads of Italian sport and those in charge of its organisation held a press conference at the CONI Headquarters at which they illustrated the programme for the 16th Mediterranean Games that will take place in Pescara next 26th June - 5th July. CONI President Gianni Petrucci, the Secretary of State for the Council of Ministers Rocco Crimi, the member of the IOC Executive Board, who is also Extraordinary Commissioner for the Games, Mario Pescante, together with the Honorary President of the Organising Committee Sabatino Aracu, officially launched the Pescara Games, presenting the programme, the competitions and the medals that the athletes from 23 countries from the Mediterranean Basin will compete for. The many personalities present, the athletes, and journalists at the press conference were shown a video of the venues and the Olympic Village A highly meaningful event, which aimed to show how, despite the earthquake that has struck the region of Abruzzo, the city of Pescara and Italian sport are ready to offer the representatives of sport from the Mediterranean Basin two weeks of sport and celebrations marked by fair play and friendship among peoples.
