GAGOC holds a press conference to announce results of the selection of lyrics for the second round of the Guangzhou Asian Games Song Competition.

The solicitation, divided into public solicitation and directional solicitation, started in February 2009 and by May 31, 769 entries had been received, including 751 from public solicitation and 18 from directional solicitation.

The Guangzhou Asian Games Song Solicitation Organising Committee was in charge of the selection of entries from public solicitation. It invited experts across China and formed preliminary and final appraisal commissions. By the end of June, 80 entries had emerged from the preliminary appraisal. Then the final appraisal commission chose eight entries from them after three rounds of voting and discussion. The selected lyrics were written by people from different social backgrounds, such as teachers, servicemen, government officials and deputies to the People's Congress.

On the other hand, 11 entries were selected from the 18 directional submissions by famous lyricists invited by GAGOC, making a total number of 19 selected entries for the competition.

The 2010 Asian Games will be not only a sporting gala but also a cultural gala, which needs a number of unique and fantastic Games-themed songs and music works in other forms.
