Flame lit for 2011 Asian Winter Games Astana-Almaty

11 Jan 2011 - Kuwait: The flame for the 2011 Asian winter Games in Astana-Almaty has been lit at the Kuwait Tower in Kuwait City. OCA President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah and Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan H.E. Temirkhan Dosmukhambetov together lit up the flame of the 7th Asian Winter Games.

Kazakhstan men’s single figure skating athlete Abzal Rakimgaliev was the first torch bearer and received the torch from Minister Dosmukhambetov.

Five representatives from Kuwait, China, Republic of Korea and Japan are also among the torch bearers in the ceremony.

The flame ignition ceremony marks the starting point of Asian Winter Games torch. The torch will fly back Kazakhstan tomorrow to start 18-day’s journey before it arrives at Astana Arena on 30 January in the grand opening ceremony.

The 7th Asian Winter Games Astana-Almaty 2011 will be held from 30th January to 6th February in the cities of Astana and Almaty in Kazakhstan.
