Sheikh Ahmad opens ANOC Ex-Co meeting

12 Apr 2012, Moscow, Russia: The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Executive Council meeting was officially opened by the Interim President, His Excellency Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, on Thursday in Moscow. In his opening speech, Sheikh Ahmad expressed his thanks to the previous ANOC President, Mr Mario Vazquez Rana, for his long service to ANOC and the Olympic Movement.

“Thanks to Mario for 31 years of great service to ANOC and the Olympic Movement,” Sheikh Ahmad said. “Everyone knows he is one of our senior colleagues and also the founder of ANOC.

“On behalf of the ANOC Executive Council members I would like to express our gratitude to him and wish him good health and all the best.”

Sheikh Ahmad also thanked Alexander Zhukov, President of the Russian Olympic Committee, for all the hard work in preparing for the congress, meetings and visiting delegations.

“I would like to thank the Russian Olympic Committee for hosting the ANOC General Assembly and the World Olympic Sport Convention in Moscow. I sincerely wish Russia all the best in hosting a successful 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.”

The President of the Russian Olympic Committee, Alexander Zhukov, also attended today’s meeting and welcomed all the guests to the Russian capital.

“I would like to welcome all of you, and especially Sheikh Ahmad, to Moscow,” Mr. Zhukov said.

“It is our great pleasure to see all ANOC Executive Council members here in Moscow before the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games. Every ANOC EC member plays an important role in the global Olympic Movement.

“We will do our best to create a comfortable and friendly atmosphere for all guests, and wish for a fruitful and productive ANOC EC meeting today.”
