TUNIS, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia's handball team captain Heykel Mganem will carry the Tunisian flag at the London Olympic Games opening ceremony, head of the country's Olympic Committee, Younes Chetali announced on Tuesday.

Mganem, 35, was chosen for his "outstanding sportsmanship, moral qualities and long international career." He started his professional career in 1998 and currently plays for the French club of St. Raphael after having played for Montpellier, Nimes and Selestat. In 2006 he was named France's best handball player.

A pivotal figure in Tunisia's handball team, Mganem led his teammates to winning six times Africa's Handball Championship.

Tunisia will be represented by more than 83 athletes at the 2012 London Olympic games in individual and collective games, including the men's handball, volleyball and football teams. The number represents a record in the country's participation to the Olympic Games.
