YANGON, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Mandalay stadium construction which has started since January 2011 has been completed by 85 percent for hosting the 27th SEA Games in December 2013 in Myanmar, according to sports circle Saturday.

The company has targeted 88 percent completion in late June.

The stadium will hold about 30,000 spectators and host football tournaments and other Olympic games.

The 27th SEA Games will be hosted in three main cities -- Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and Ngwesaung Beach for 12 days starting from Dec. 11 to 22, 2013.

Several millions of people across the region and the world are expected to witness the spectacular Games either on site or through the television and internet.

The SEA Games represents the highest sports competition held in Southeast Asian region once every two years as of 1959.

So far, Myanmar has hosted the games two times -- in 1961 and 1969. Myanmar stood first with 104 medals in the 1961 SEA Games and with 149 medals in 1969's, signifying that Myanmar emerged champion every time it hosted SEA Games.
