NANJING, China, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Trampoline gymnast Nadeen Mammdoh Wehdan of Qatar has special reason to rejoice as she celebrates her 17th birthday on Wednesday.

Wehdan is the first Qatari trampoline gymnast to qualify for the Youth Olympic Games, having earned her berth at the 2014 junior Asian championships in Chiba, Japan, in June, where she finished 10th.

Her achievements include a silver medal-winning perfornance at the 2011 Arab Games that her country hosted in Doha.

Wehdan, a first-year university student, aspires to compete at the Olympic Games. She trains at Qatar Gymnastics Club under coach Oybek Mamataliev.

In Nanjing, Wehdan is expected to again face 2014 Asian junior champion Zhu Xuejing of China and bronze medallist Rana Nakano of Japan.

Qualifications will take place at Nanjing Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium on Thursday. The top eight gymnasts from qualifications will advance to the final, also on Thursday.
