China's Zhao Yanni grabs women's 3,000m steeplechase gold

AMMAN, July 27 (Xinhua) -- China's Zhao Yanni won the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase title at the 17th Asian Athletics Championships on Friday at the Jordanian capital of Amman, bringing the gold medals of the Chinese team to five.

Zhao, 16, had always been leading the competition after 200 meters' race since no other competitors can overran her.

After finishing the competition in 10 minutes 48.18 seconds, Zhao looked a little tired because she, like other athletes, felt a little uncomfortable with the comparatively high altitude of the city.

Lying on the ground and relaxed, Zhao was unsatisfied with her performance at the event because at the first 200m she hesitated to lead the competition. "This is not my best personal performance, which is 10 minutes 2.76 seconds," she said.

"But I'm really tired these days due to tightened agenda and long time journey from China to Jordan," she said.

The silver medal was taken by Jordanian Bara'h Marwan and Iranian Mojavery Leila Ebrahimy.
