Chinese Li Zhuhong claims Xiamen International Marathon men's title

XIAMEN, Southeast China, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Li Zhuhong of China edged two main opponents from Kenya to clinch his first title of Xiamen Marathon with a winning time of 2 hours 13 minutes and 17 seconds.

In the women¡¯s event, Zhu Xiaolin, from Liaoning province, headed Chinese women runners for a clean sweep of the top three placings at the race here on Saturday.

Li, from northwest China¡¯s Gansu province, set an early pace and held a position firmly in the leading group, should by should with Toroitich Haron Kiplimo and Kirwa Meshack Kosgei of Kenya, and spurted ahead after passing the 40 km mark to cross the finishing line.

The women¡¯s winner, Zhu Xiaolin, who led all the way to take the victory in a time of two hours 26 minutes and 8 seconds, was follow by last year¡¯s champion, Sun Weiwei, who finished second with 3 minutes and 19 seconds behind.

Li Zhuhong is excited with his triumph, "I am very happy with the win, " he said, "It is the first time I¡¯ve taken victory in such important race."
