YOG shooting qualifications: 14 Quotas in Doha

22.12.2009 - Fourteen Youth Olympic Games Quota Places were distributed at the Asian Championship in 10m events that took placed in Doha, Qatar.

The third Asian Championship in 10m events was closed today in Doha, QAT, where the competition was held from the 16th to the 22nd of December. The Championship was a stage of success for some of the most skilled Asian shooters, but it also gave a chance to younger athletes to compete between themselves within dedicated events to secure Youth Olympic Games Quota Places.

A total of fourteen Youth Olympic Games Quota Places were assigned in Air Rifle and Air Pistol events, seven going to Women and seven to Men. Korea and the People’s Republic of China won the most of the Quotas, securing four “Olympic tickets” each. Following them, the Indian team grabbed three Quotas at the Air Rifle Men and at the Air Pistol Women events.


The first edition of the Youth Olympic Games will take place in Singapore from 14 to 26 August 2010.  There, 3200 athletes aging between 14 and 18 will compete in 26 different sports. Eighty young shooters will have a chance to compete in four events: Air Rifle and Air Pistol, Men and Women.


The Asian Championship of Doha was the second Youth Olympic Games qualification competition, following the Oceania Games of Sydney. Eighteen Quota Places were distributed to nine countries, so far. The next Quotas will be awarded at the European Championship in 10m events, taking place in Meraker (NOR) from the 6th to the 14th of March 2010.
