ISSF Shotgun World Cup opened in Beijing

BEIJING, April 21, 2011 - More than 350 shotgun shooters coming from 54 countries arrived at the 2008 Olympic Shooting Range of Beijing to participate in the fourth leg of the 2011 ISSF World Cup Series.

The 2011 ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Beijing takes place on the layouts of the Olympic Clay Target Field from the 19th through the 28 of April. 350 athletes will be competing in these days, trying to secure one of the ten Olympic Quota places awarded here.

The competition officially kicked-off Thursday at a colourful Opening Ceremony: “We offer a warm and friendly welcome to all participants;” the ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber said, speaking from the Opening’s stage.

“We express our thanks and appreciation to the organizers, the Chinese Shooting Association. We are very pleased to come back to this wonderful Olympic Shooting Range in Beijing.” The ISSF Secretary General added. “Since 2008, we are coming back to China every year. This is a prove of the long lasting legacy of the Olympic Games, and we hope that our Chinese friends will be able to host more competitions in the future.”

“We greet the media representatives and our spectators, and we wish to all athletes good luck and a fair competition!” The ISSF Technical Delegate for this competition, Mr. Luciano Rossi of Italy.

The Vice Minister of China’s General Administration of Sport and Vice President of China’s Olympic Committee, Mr. Feng Jingzhong, officially declared the competition open, while the Chairmen of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Zhang Liang saluted the athletes following the ceremony.

“Under the leadership of the ISSF, the shooting sport if witnessing rapid growth in the world, and enjoying higher status international sport community.” Mr Zhang Liang said. “We believe that this world cup will deepen mutual friendship among us, and that the fair play will prevail. Welcome back to China!”
