LONDON, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The synchronized swimming test event for the 2012 London Games begins here on Wednesday with 160 athletes from 34 countries and regions to feature in the five-day competitions.
The test is part of the London Prepares series and also serves as the qualification event for the London Games. The final three team places in the synchronized swimming competition at London 2012 will came out from the Aquatics Center.
According to the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), the event will see over 16,000 spectators watch the action across five days, with world class athletes and teams, including reigning Olympic and world champions Russia to demonstrate their precision skills.
The event will not only be a crucial event for the athletes as they compete in the venue where they will contest Olympic medals this summer, it is also a chance for LOCOG to test operations ahead of the Games.
Debbie Jevans, Director of Sport at LOCOG, said: "This will be our third competitive test of the Aquatics Center, but it is just as important that we test the pool for the synchronized swimmers and give our workforce a chance to work as a team with 100 days to go until the start of the Games."
There are only 100 days to go before the opening of the 2012 London Olympics. During the Games, the synchronized swimming will take place from August 5 to 10 with 104 female swimmers compete for the duet's and team's gold medals.
