Malaysian veteran Lee Chong Wei crowned in badminton Malaysia Open 2014

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian famous badminton shuttler Lee Chong Wei, also the top seed, beat his Indonesian opponent Tommy Sugiarto here on Sunday, winning the men's singles in the Malaysian Open 2014.

In the first set, Lee got a tight win by 21-19. In the second, Lee delivered a quick defeat to his opponent by 21-9.

After the match, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak came to the court and gave reward to Lee. This is the 10th time for Lee to crown in the Malaysia Open.

In the women's singles, China's Li Xuerui, also the No.1 seed in women's singles, beat her teammate Wang Shixian and claimed the title.

In the women's doubles, China's Bao Yixin/Tang Jinhua defeated their Japanese opponents Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi, scoring the championship.

In the men's doubles, Malaysian shuttlers V Shem Goh/Khim Wah Lim beat China's Chai Biao/Hong Lei to step on top podium.

In the mixed doubles final, Chinese players Xu Chen/Ma Jin scored victory by defeating Danish shuttlers Joachim Fischer Nielsen.

The 2014 is the first year when the Maybank Malaysia Open Superseries has been promoted to the higher level Superseries Premier, and also as the second superseries tournament of the 2014 BWF Super Series. The tournament is taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from Jan. 14-19, 2014 and has a total prize of 500,000 U.S. dollars.
