Beijing, August 20, 2016(Chinese Olympic Committee)--The 14th day of Rio 2016 was wrapped up. China scored two golds, two silvers and three bronzes. In athletics, China's Liu Hong and Lyu Xiuzhi claimed the women's 20km race walking gold and sliver respectively. China finished fourth in the men's 4x100m relay. Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan was crowned in the badminton men's doubles to end China's badminton gold drought. Lin Dan missed the final after losing to Lee Chong Wei in a semifinal.
In badminton, China's Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan came back from a set down to overcome Malaysia's Goh V. Shem and Tan Wee Kiong 2-1 in the final, claiming China's first badminton gold in Rio 2016. In a semifinal earlier, two-time defending champion Lin Dan took on Malaysia's world top ranked Lee Chong Wei in their 37th clash. In spite of saving three match points, Lin lost 1-2 to Lee to miss the final. In the other semifinal, China's Chen Long shrugged off Denmark's Viktor Axelsen in two straight sets to set up a clash against Lee in his first Olympic final.
In athletics, China claimed its second gold. Liu Hong slipped past Mexico's Maria Gonzalez 100 meters from the finish line to claim the gold, clocking in at 1:28:35, her teammate Lyu Xiuzhi won the bronze, finishing in 1:28:42, and Tibetan girl Qieyang Shijie finished fifth. In the men's 4x100m relay final, China's Tang Xingqiang, Xie Zhenye, Su Bingtian and Zhang Peimeng finished fourth in 37'30, China's best result ever in this event in the Olympics. Jamaica led by Usain Bolt claimed the gold, defending the championship a third time. While winning his ninth Olympic gold medal, Bolt completed a "triple-triple" of sprinting gold in men's 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. Japan set an Asian record to take the silver in 37'60.
In the synchronized swimming team free routine, China claimed the silver with 192.9841 points. Russia won their fifth straight Olympic team gold with 196.1439 points.
In boxing, China's Yin Junhua narrowly lost to France's Estelle Mossely to win the silver in the women's light (57-60kg) final. China's Li Qian settled for the bronze after losing to Nouchka Fontijn of the Netherlands in a women's middle (69-75kg) semifinal. Hu Jianguan lost 0-3 to Russia's veteran Aloian Misha, the bronze winner of the London Olympics in a men's fly (52kg) semifinal. To date, the Chinese boxing team has wrapped up its journey of Rio with one silver and three bronzes.
The third round of the women's golf finished, China's grand slam champion Feng Shanshan moved up to fourth and is expected to take a medal in the final round tomorrow. China's Lin Xiyu hit a hole-in-one on the par-three eighth hole, the first ever ace in the Olympic women's game.
The 15th day of Rio 2016 will open tonight BJT. Towards the end of the Rio Olympics, China still has a couple of chances to score golds. In the high-profile women's volleyball final, China will take on Serbia. Previously in a pool match, China lost 0-3 to Serbia. Whether China led by Lang Ping can take the crown is worth expectation. In badminton, Chen Long and Lee Chong Wei will fight it out for the men's singles gold, and Lin Dan and Viktor Axelsen will compete for the bronze. In diving, China's Qiu Bo and Chen Aisen will go for the gold of the last diving event-men's 10m platform.
