BAOJI, China, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- World No. 1 mixed doubles pair Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong and world No. 2 women's singles shuttler Chen Yufei, won their respective gold medals for Zhejiang on the final matchday of the 2020 Chinese Badminton Championships here on Tuesday.

Zheng/Huang, winners of the 2018 and 2019 World Badminton Championships, won the first set 11-6 against Ou Xuanyi/Huang Dongping of Fujian in the final.

After Ou/Huang overtook the lead by taking 11-9 and 11-8 in the following two sets, Huang Yaqiong managed to avoid unforced errors in the fourth, tying up the two pairs again.

As the title favorite, Zheng/Huang began to attack the neighboring zone between their rivals, tiring out Ou when Huang Dongping couldn't build a solid defense in front of the net. They won the fifth and sixth sets 11-5, 11-7 to seal the final victory in 44 minutes.

"We regarded the clash as an international match, you know we had few tough games before the final, we had to bring our situation to a normal level," Huang Yaqiong told Xinhua.

"In a best-of-seven series, you must stay focused each second. We made some mistakes midway through the second and third sets, so we suffered some setbacks," Zheng said.

In the women's singles final, Chen Yufei almost retired in the fourth set, with the 22-year-old trailing 1-2 in sets. Chen requested a medical timeout, which helped her recover, made a strong comeback, beating Wang Zhiyi of Hubei in the set.

With more experience and the determination of winning China's No. 1 title, Chen won the following two sets, defeating her rising star rival in a tough game 11-13, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9, 13-11, 11-9, which lasted over 100 minutes.

"It was a very tough match for me, especially in the first three sets. When facing Wang, you need to be more patience and find attacking chances in the long rallies," Chen said.

"Because of me, Zhejiang women's team failed to reach the team event final. Since that moment, I told myself to take the gold medal back in the women's singles," Chen added.

In the women's doubles final, Chen Xiaofei/Feng Xueying of Guangdong beat An Yu/Liu Shengshu of Liaoning, 14-12, 15-14, 4-11, 11-4, 11-3.

In the men's doubles gold medal game, Liu Yuchen/Feng Yanzhe of Beijing saw off Liu Cheng/Huang Kaixiang of Fujian, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-5.
