HRH Princess Margriet to Open IPC Athletics Worlds Assen 2006

20.07.2006 - Her Royal Highness (HRH) Princess Margriet of the Netherlands will carry out the official opening ceremony of the IPC Athletics World Championships Assen 2006 on 2 September 2006. The ceremony will be held at the De Smelt Stadium in Assen, the Netherlands, to welcome the athletes, volunteers, spectators and other guests.

An estimated 1,500 athletes from over 70 countries will participate in the Championships, which will be held at the Stadsbroek Sports Park from 2 to 10 September. The IPC Athletics World Championships are the biggest sports competition for athletes with a disability after the Paralympic Games.

Princess Margriet is a member of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Honorary Board. In this role, she is an important ambassador for the Paralympic Movement.

The Championships are organized by the Euro Champ Foundation; a Dutch-based organization established for the purpose of running sports events for athletes with a disability.
