Games personnel get dressed
2006-10-05 16:14:00   Doha 2006

Tuesday, 03 October, 2006 - All the colours of the 15th Asian Games reflected in the uniforms of the Games VolunteersThere are less than two months before the Khalifa Stadium hosts the Opening Ceremony of the 15th Asian Games on Friday 1 December. Now, another phase of the complex elements that come together to stage this huge international sporting event has started: kitting out the Games workforce with their uniforms.

This 20,000-strong army of Games workers; full-time personnel from the Doha Asian Games Organising Committee (DAGOC), thousands of volunteers, as well as technical officials; started collecting their smart and colourful uniforms on 1 October from the Uniform and Accreditation Centre (UAC) in Izghawa, at the Al-Gharrafa Sports Club.

This phased exercise will take a few weeks to complete. The UAC has been notifying DAGOC staff when to collect their uniforms from its centre by email, while the volunteers and other temporary staff will be informed by SMS message to their mobile phones.

People who do not have personal transportation to get to the UAC can take the Mowasalat bus route No 102.
.
The design and colours of the uniforms to be worn by the DAGOC staff, temporary workers and volunteers, have been carefully selected to represent aspects of Qatar: the sun, sea and sand. So, the colours used are red, blue and yellow. In addition, Arabic calligraphies of the words ¡®sun¡¯, ¡®sea¡¯ and ¡®sand¡¯ will be woven into the uniforms.

Technical personnel and other officials, such as managers and directors, will wear either a casually-smart combination of blue and green, blue and maroon or plain blue suits.

National Team Officials will be handed their uniforms between 15 and 17 November, while the International Team Officials will get theirs soon after arrival in Qatar towards the end of November.

The uniforms have been produced by Bean Pole, the Korean clothing manufacturer, which is one of the Games¡¯ Official Partners.
