Kraushaar Pielach wins season-ending luge meet

MOSCOW, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Silke Kraushaar-Pielach of Germany won the women¡¯s luge season finale in Sigulda, Latvia on Saturday, edging Natalia Yakushenko at the World Cup Finals.

Kraushaar-Pielach, a former Olympic and world champion, had a two-heat total of 1 minute and 26.807 seconds. It was the German¡¯s seventh win in nine races this season.

Yakushenko clocked 1:26.871, the best finish for the Ukrainian of the season.

Nina Reithmayer of Austria finished third in 1:27.186.

Kraushaar-Pielach topped the final standings with 845 points ahead of two other Germans.

Tatjana Hufner, who finished fifth, was runner-up with 685 points and Anke Wischnewski, who finished ninth, was third with 604 points. Yakushenko was fifth overall with 364 points.
