22.06.2008 - Organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (the Federation), the annual festive sports event, 2008 Olympic Day Run (ODR) was successfully held on 22 June 2008 (Sunday) at 8:30 a.m. at Wanchai Sports Ground.
This year, nearly 4,000 Hong Kong citizens and 8 corporate teams echoed our appeal of “We’re CheeRunners” and participated in the ODR. Enthusiastic runners participated in hopes to cheer up Hong Kong’s finest athletes to compete in the up-coming 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Tremendous Olympic atmosphere was created at the event.
In show of support to Hong Kong Athletes, a giant artistic painting with encouragement from the public was presented to swimmers AU Hoi Shun Stephanie, CHAN Yu Ning and TANG Wing Yung Natasha Terri, and shooter WONG Fai, representatives of Hong Kong athletes. Runners enjoyed a scenic view along the harbour through prestigious landmarks such as the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre and Golden Bauhinia Square. In addition, spectacular performances by renowned artist Ms. Kelly CHEN and various games at the games booths were also present at the event, featuring a great fun and entertaining occasion for the young and old. The ODR reached its climax in the lucky draw sessions with prizes worth more than HK$100,000 which were sponsored by our sole sponsor, the Samsung Electronics H. K. Co. Ltd.
During the Opening Ceremony, President of the Federation, The Hon. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, said: “The Federation is ecstatic with the high turnout of nearly 4,000 citizens this year at the ODR in show of their passion for sports and support to the Hong Kong Athletes”. In the same occasion, Mr. B. W. KIM, President of Samsung Electronics Hong Kong Set Division said: “Samsung has consistently sponsored world-class sporting events in the belief that sports - like the development of digital technology - plays a vital role in unifying people of all ages, races and genders.”
The Federation extended its sincere gratitude to the sole sponsor of event– Samsung Electronics H. K. Co. Ltd. for its staunch support to the ODR; the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (subvented organization) and the Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association (co-organizer) to make the event a staunch success.
