31 Jul 2011, Kuwait: In a carnival atmosphere filled with fun and friendship, over 600 people took part in the Olympic Day Run organised by the Kuwait Olympic Committee in collaboration with the Kuwaiti Athletics Federation on Thursday, July 28.
The event was conducted under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, President of Kuwait Olympic Committee, who delegated Mr. A.H. Yousef Hussein, Kuwait NOC Treasurer, to represent him in this great sporting festival. Ambassadors of countries based in Kuwait also attended.
The distance of the run was 5 kilometers for men and 3 kilometers for women. There were 390 male contestants and 284 female contestants, including a large number of schoolboys, schoolgirls and children.
The starting point for men was the Marina Mall, and for women it was the swimming pools facility. All participants converged on the Green Island for the finish and awards ceremony.
The successful organisation of this event, admired by all the participants and the public, is, no doubt, a great credit for Kuwait Olympic Committee, which spares no effort in organising such sporting events to promote a healthy lifestyle among young people and to improve productivity.
Kuwait Olympic Committee thanked all patrons for contributing to the success of the Olympic Day Run, in particular the corporate support of the AlMuowsherji Catering, McDonald’s, Al Watania Telecommunications, Bushehri Group and Cooperative Societies of Kuwait.
KOC also thanked Al Mustaqbal Telecommunications Co, Kuwait Enterprises Projects and Marina Mall Management. Special thanks were extended to the Public Authority for Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Information and the Embroidery Department at Kuwait Municipality whose contributions made the day a great success.
The event was divided into three age categories for male and female runners, in addition to the disabled category. The top three in each category were:
Women, 15-30 years: Hameedamid Reza, Kawthar Amin, Fatima Salem. 31-45: Farahnaz Abdul Kazem, Lida Khobiar, Aisha Monasinki. Over 45: Najat Issa, Najat Hasan, Salam Fawaz.
Men, 15-30: Omar Ahmad, Nayef Rabie, Faisal Rabie. 31-45: Abdullah Al Failakawi, Ali Saad, Ali Jaber. Over 45: Tayseer Sameeh, Nasser Ahmad, Nader Abdullah.
Disabled: Hamad Naser, Mohammad Ahmad, Abdullah Ali.
