This is also used as a token of love, "to be tossed and received between a boy and a girl in the open country on local festivals," as recorded in Humours by Brooks by Zhu Fu in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). This custom has come down to mark the third day of the third moon and the Mid-Autumn Festival, two important holidays for the Zhuangs. The game is played between individuals or teams, in which beautifully embroidered balls with long tassels are thrown through a ring placed some 10m above the ground, sometimes as many as ten at the same time. Result are determined by the number of successful throws in a certain length of time.
