On December 28, 2003, the construction of Olympic venues was in full swing as the ground was broken for the construction of the Beijing Shooting Range and the Laoshan Velodrome. 

    Present at the ground-breaking ceremony  were Yuan Weimin, Director of the General Administration of Sport and President of Chinese Olympic Committee, Li Zhijian and Liu Jingming , Vice-presidents of the Organizing Committee of the 29th Olympic Games, and other officials from the General Administration of Sport, Chinese Olympic Committee and Beijing Organizing Committee including Yu Zaiqing, Li Furong, Duan Shijie, Wang Jun, Wang Baoliang, Jiang Xiaoyu, Li Binghua, Wang Wei, Yang Shu'an, He Zhenliang, Feng Jianzhong, Xiao Tian and Cui Dalin.

    The construction work is supposed to be finished in the first half of the year 2006 for Olympic test events to be held during 2007.
