Int'l Forum on Olympic Venue Construction & Management held in Beijing

On April 18, 2005 a one-day forum on the construction and operation of Olympic stadiums was held in Beijing Hotel.
The forum was also held to promote and offer business opportunities, following a similar conference introducing the Olympic market economy last April.
BOCOG, along with the Beijing Municipal Commission for Development and Reform (BMCDR), the Beijing 2008 Project Construction Headquarters Office, the General Administration of Sports (GAS), the Beijing Business Bureau and the Beijing Municipal Sports Administration organized the forum.
Setting the tune for the forum, Chai Xiaozhong, BMCDR deputy chief, outlined developments since the last April meeting. He also summarised prospects regarding local economic and social development in the lead up to 2008, and the focus of this year’s Olympic preparatory work.
Vice-Mayor of Beijing, Zhang Mao, and BOCOG Executive Vice-President, Jiang Xiaoyu, also delivered speeches at the forum.
Relevant experience in relation to post-Olympics venue operation was widely shared during discussions. The forum also promoted and discussed the resulting business opportunities for attendees.
A number of big names in business, as well as those with strong professional backgrounds, participated in the forum.
During the forum, five top advisors were hired to manage the Olympic economy, and the official “Olympic Economy” website was launched.
The forum provided opportunities for suppliers and buyers to establish connections.
With the preparation for the Beijing Olympics going into full swing in 2005, the forum was convened in order to set off a new tide for Olympic economic development.
Beijing will select agents, through efficient open market tendering, to manage the construction and operation of a number of Olympic venues.
