2006-09-06 - A 2-km-long but only 25-meter-wide ancient-style city park will be completed in Beijing to link Jiu Gu Lou Da Jie (Old Drum Tower Street) and Yong He Gong Qiao (Lamasery Overpass) together at the end of September, which will be the narrowest park in Beijing.
The main parts of the park will be some ancient style corridors and greenbelts. Like Huangchenggen Site Park and Changpu River Park, this park is also constructed out of the remains of the old Beijing city. After completion, the park will be opened to the public free of charge.
Currently, workers are busy giving finishing touches to the ancient-style buildings in the park. Most pillars and beams, and some bricks and tiles of these buildings were taken from torn-down old houses nearby. Some of the houses in the park are renovated old houses, but most of them are new ones in ancient style. Greenbelts of pine trees, cypresses and goldenrain trees add refreshing shades to the park.
Actually, the construction of the park is aiming to restore the ancient style of Beijing. The park is located at the border of the old Beijing city, and its ancient style will be perfectly compatible with Yong He Gong, to create a harmonious cultural environment. (Xinhuanet)
