(BEIJING, September 25) -- Line 5 of Beijing Subway is an "Olympic line," so its quality should be ensured, said Liu Qi, the city's party secretary and top organizer of the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.

On the occasion of the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, Liu and city officials paid an on-site visit to Dongdan Station of the newly completed 27-km line.

Beijing has four subway lines with a total length of 114km and a passenger flow of 1.6 million. With the operation of Line 5 in October, the city's traffic conditions are expected to improve further.

Liu checked the passenger channel, ticket checkpoints and platform, and listened to a report on the availability of accessible facilities. He then rode the train to experience its operational status.

Line 5 uses a new train made of stainless light steel. Fireproof doors are installed on the platforms. Hand-phone signals cover the whole line and real-time information is readily available. Air conditioning is provided for the stations and inside the trains. Meanwhile, elevators and accessible facilities are on hand. Experts say the line has more functions than other lines in China.

Liu urged the employees to pay attention to safe operation, show professionalism and improve the environment to provide the best services for passengers.
