(BEIJING, April 19) -- Outstanding work results will guarantee the staging of a "high-quality Olympics Games with distinguishing features," BOCOG President Liu Qi stressed during a two-day comprehensive mock drill of the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic venue operations here.

Beijing Mayor Guo Jinlong and other officials joined Liu in the exercise, during which the operations teams for National Stadium, Capital Gymnasium, the Wukesong venue cluster, National Aquatics Center, Workers' Stadium, and other venues were questioned about their work progress, athlete participation, ticketing, media services and volunteer services via teleconference.

The mock drill was successful and gave the venue operations teams invaluable experience in terms of emergency response, according to Guo, who is also executive vice-president of BOCOG. As the top persons in charge, the venue team directors must improve their judgment and decision-making and problem-solving skills, he said.

Mayor Guo revealed that in the next phase, BOCOG's various departments and the venue teams would need to strengthen their cooperation and coordination to ensure that the necessary tasks get done. He stressed training for the venue team personnel so that everyone, from the director to volunteers, would be well-rehearsed in venue operations.

Addressing the mock drill participants, Liu stressed safety as the top priority during the final phase of preparatory work for the venue teams. Under the leadership of the central government and with the support of the entire country, the venue teams must progress cautiously and conscientiously and never stop striving for the best, he said, as a "high-quality Olympic Games with distinguishing feature" is the final goal.

Liu stressed the importance of leadership and support of the operations command departments and venue teams. Problems should be reported as soon as they occur so that they may be addressed in a timely manner. He also reiterated the mayor's concerns over training.

Various municipal and BOCOG officials also took part in the mock drill.
