(BEIJING, June 11) – While working hard to help relief efforts in Beichuan, a town devastated first by the May 12 earthquake and very recently, flooding from a quake lake, Qingdao has not wavered from the path of economic development, continuing the construction work on two of the city's new thoroughfares, reported Qingdao Daily.
The third phase of the high-speed bridge which crosses over the railway tracks in Qingdao was completed by May 30. 600 people worked day and night to complete this stage of the flyover by its scheduled date. Planners even took design into consideration, integrating the new construction so that it would blend nicely with the city's landscape.
Construction on the Qingdao section of the underground rail tunnel is also picking up speed, with the digging going 3% ahead of plans. According to the schedule, the 200 meters of Yunnan Avenue's main tunnel will be completely dug out by the end of the year.
