(BEIJING, June 12) -- From June 10 to June 14, all competition platforms, special apparatus, and rooms to be used for gymnastics competitions will be completely constructed in Beijing's National Indoor Stadium. This includes fully equipping the men's and women's warm-up rooms.

According to reports, among the scheduled installations are a total of 399 "little tables" covering 3,000 square meters (forming the competition platform), three sets of 22 pieces of gymnastics equipment, four trampolines, and a 298-meter long plank.

Although all equipment has been pre-approved by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), and competition platforms will be built according to international requirements, the managers at the Olympic venue have invited a third party to oversee the installation and construction work, to ensure quality and safety.

Among members of the quality assurance team are 7 representatives of China's sportsware quality supervision inspection center. These experts will point out any flaws with the work, and help with troubleshooting until everything is perfect.

Yang Youtao of the inspection center revealed that leaders have published a set of safety assurance rules to guide the work. These guidelines include making sure that no sharp objects are on or near any areas that may hurt athletes inadvertently and that all materials used are environmentally-friendly.

In addition, the successful transformation of the venue from a gymnastics center to a handball competition site must be guaranteed.

The extra steps taken by organizers to ensure the safety of athletes during the Olympics is unprecedented in China, according to National Indoor Stadium management team member Li Hang. From ensuring the authenticity of equipment to inspecting and re-inspecting the venue's construction work, China will provide a fair, equal platform for athletes, just another step to Beijing's hosting of a "high-quality Olympics with distinguishing features."
