(BEIJING, July 2) -- Sha Tin and Beas River representatives of the Hong Kong Animal Welfare Advisory Group (AWAG) recently paid a visit to the Olympic equestrian venues, saying that planners have prepared well regarding the welfare of animals that will be staying and/or competing there.
The inspection tour was participated in by the head of Racing Operations of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, John Ridley, who is also Olympic Project Business Manager. Dr. Chris Riggs, head of Veterinary Clinical Services and Olympic Veterinary Services Manager, Dr. Keith Watkins, Consultant Regulatory Veterinarian and Olympic Quarantine Manager, and Tony Shea, Olympic Stable Manager, were all part of the group.
"It's very impressive," said Mr. Chan Pui-tin, AWAG spokesperson. "Before I came here I had a lot of reservations, but now I've seen the facilities my confidence has increased dramatically." He also showed his appreciation and admiration for the world-class quarantine facilities.
