BEIJING, June 23, 2005 (Xinhuanet) -- China has scheduled its domestic athletics meets in accordance with the 2008 Beijing Olympics in order to get its athletes better prepared for the Games.
Zhang Yongliang, performance director of the Chinese Athletics Management Center, was quoted as saying by Thursday’s Chinese Sports Daily that in the buildup to the Beijing Games, all the big events held at home will take place between June and August and are mainly contested in the morning and evening. Beijing Olympics will open on August 8 and conclude on Aug. 24.
"We do this in order to ensure Chinese athletes could get used to the competition schedule of the Olympics at an earlier time so that their performance level could be raised,"said Zhang.
Zhang said that Chinese athletes often have to cope with the jet lags when competing outside China.
"We will take advantage of the 2008 Games being held in Beijingto help athletes’ form get sharp for the games as early as they could," said Zhang.
