CHANGSHA, Central China, June 25, 2005 (Xinhuanet) -- Olympic champion Xing Huina of China on Saturday played down her chance of retaining her 10,000m gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Xing came from nowhere to win the Olympic gold medal in Athens and has thus become a big star in China. Her gold was the only one from track and field by Chinese women in Athens.
"I will think it over about whether to compete in the 2008 Games," said Xing after winning the women’s 5,000m and finished second in the 10,000m in the national women’s championships here.
"I am sure that in the coming three years, many young athletes will rise, so it’s hard for me win it again."
But she added that if she can maintain good form, she will work hard along with the youngsters and try her best in Beijing.
