WELLINGTON, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Kiribati has sent three athletes to compete at the Beijing Olympics, the Pacific Magazine reported on Tuesday.

The South Pacific island nation's Minister for Sport Amberoti Nikora is leading a 16-member delegation to Beijing.

Two athletes will compete in the track events. They are Micronesian Games silver medallist Kaitinano Mwemweata who also went to the Athens Olympics, competing in the 200-meter dash, and Rabangaki Nawai, also in the 200-meter race.

The third athlete is a weightlifter and bronze medallist in the Oceania Championships, David Katoatau.

Kiribati National Olympic Committee Secretary General Willie Uan said the rest of the delegation are government representatives, Kiribati National Olympic Committee officials for meetings, and a group of promising sportsmen and women, who will undergo training and camps organized by the International Olympic Committee.

This is the second Olympics for Kiribati to participate in.
