ANKARA, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Former European 1,500 meters champion Sureyya Ayhan was set to appeal on Monday for the second time to a Turkish arbitration board to have her life-time ban removed, she said in statement on her personal Web-site.
Ayhan was banned for life-time from competing by the Turkish Athletics Federation (TAF) last November after she tested positive for illegal doping during a training in September in the U.S.
The arbitration board overturned federation's decision after Ayhan's first appeal but the TAF re-affirmed the disciplinary action last week, finding the board reasoning "unacceptable".
"Decisions of the arbitration board are absolute and they are to be observed and complied with. The approval of the ban constitutes an illegal insistence," Ayhan said.
The Turkish middle-distance runner claimed the 1500 meters European title in Munich in 2002. She won the silver medal in the World Championships in 2003.
