KAMPALA, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- The anti-doping control is set to be reintroduced in this year's MTN Kampala International Marathon due November 23 in Kampala, local media reported on Friday.
The reintroduction will be high on the agenda when stakeholders meet to discuss the event this weekend ahead of the fifth edition of the annual marathon race launch ceremony to take place on Tuesday.
"We are discussing the idea. It was omitted last year due to budgetary constraints but it will surely be included in this edition," Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) official Faustin Kiwa was quoted by New Vision as saying.
"That is among the major requirements for an international event, " noted the UAF official.
The doping team always has a South African, a Kenyan and four officials from the national anti-doping agency and the organizers are expected to cater for their costs including external flights.
The marathon, which marks the end of the local athletics calendar, will have the 10km open, corporate challenge, wheelchair race, 42km and the newly introduced 21km categories.
The event that attracted 6,468 participants in 2007 is organized to raise funds for expectant mothers living in Internally Displaced Peoples (IDP) camps in northern Uganda.
