2009-05-01 13:32 Xinhuanet

30.04.2009 - Description: The International Cycling Union has been informed by the IOC that samples from two riders that were re-tested have produced abnormal results.

The relevant National Olympic Committees also received this information in order to inform the athletes in question.

The samples had been analysed with a view to detecting the possible use of CERA, a new form of EPO used to improve endurance, during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

In accordance with the prevailing regulations, the UCI will not make any comment before the conclusion of the procedure conducted by the IOC. The UCI can impose a provisional suspension on the athletes concerned if the information provided by the IOC justifies this.

The standard procedure regarding the results of samples taken during the Beijing Games will now be followed. In particular, the riders involved may request an analysis of their B sample.
