PARIS, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Austrian Christian cycling athlete Pfannberger has been suspended from racing following a positive drugs test, his Katusha team said on Wednesday.

"In the late morning of today, May 6 2009, we received a communication from Pfannberger's manager about a non negative test," the Russian team said in a statement.

"Pending an official response from the UCI (International Cycling Union) the team has decided to indefinitely suspend the athlete from the team."

Pfannberger was dropped from the team to start the Giro d'Italia on Saturday earlier on Wednesday.
