Guangzhou, March 3 - The Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC) announced cooperation with the China Anti-Doping Agency (CADA) in Guangzhou on Tuesday morning. Du Lijun, Director of CADA, and Ye Xiquan, Deputy Director General of GAGOC, signed the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games Doping Control Cooperative Agreement on behalf of the two sides.
With the launch of cooperation between GAGOC and CADA on the 16th Asian Games, the anti-doping work of the Games has entered the final stage. CADA will be actively involved in tasks such as making policies on doping control, training specialised volunteers on GAGOC's doping control procedure and collecting and analysing samples.
Mr Du expressed confidence that CADA will do a great job for Guangzhou 2010's doping control programme and gave an introduction of CADA's ample experience in facilitating the doping control programme of major multi-sport events in the past two decades, including the Olympic Games, Asian Games, Universiade, East Asian Games, National Games of China and National City Games of China. He said CADA was awarded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for its contribution to the anti-doping efforts for the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
It was revealed at the signing ceremony that 1,500 urine tests will be conducted during the period from November 5 to 27, 2010; meanwhile, there will also be blood tests. A total of 58 doping contol stations will be set up, including 54 in Guangzhou and four in co-host cities Foshan, Dongguan and Shanwei.
Mr Ye said the Medical Services Department and other relevant departments of GAGOC will work closely with CADA in the doping control programme and provide a fair competition environment for Asian atheletes.
