March 26, 2010 - WADA’s President John Fahey praised the decision of the German Government to request refunds of public grants from a number of national sports federations that have failed to entirely fulfill their responsibilities in the fight against doping.
The German Ministry of Interior recently reported that it would request refunds totalling approximately 230,000 Euros from a number of national sports federations. These funds, the Ministry said, will be allocated to national sports federations that have entirely fulfilled their anti-doping responsibilities for use in anti-doping education programs.
“The German Government’s decision is a good example of commitment to the fight against doping and responsible management of public funds allocated to this field,” said Mr Fahey. “Through such measure, the government ensures that the fight against doping in its country is conducted in a proper and efficient fashion. I encourage such action from public authorities and all parties involved in the fight against doping in sport.”
