May 21, 2010 - On May 19 in Lisbon, the Governments of Brazil and Portugal signed a Protocol of Cooperation facilitated and supported by WADA in relation to the fight against doping in sport.

This agreement, which provides for exchange of information and expertise, was signed in the presence of Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Portugal's Prime Minister Jose Socrates. WADA was represented by the Director of the Agency's European Regional Office, Kelly Fairweather.

WADA has started working closely with Brazil in 2009 to help the country further develop its anti-doping capacities. Portugal, which has significant experience in the fight against doping in sport, accepted WADA's proposal to partner with Brazil to share best practices.

As the international independent organization responsible for monitoring the global fight against doping in sport, WADA will provide expertise and ensure that anti-doping capacities in Brazil are developed in compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code.
