08/09/2010, ISTANBUL (2010 FIBA World Championship) – All the players who were tested during FIBA’s largest-ever anti-doping campaign have been cleared of taking illicit substances.
The world governing body of basketball has so far carried out more than 60 tests - including 48 in the first two days of the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey on the 24 competing teams - and all were negative, Further tests have also been conducted in the eight finals with
the same result.
Patrick Baumann, Secretary-General of FIBA, said: “I am delighted that all the tests showed the players involved were clear. However, this does not mean we will rest on our laurels.
“FIBA is determined to keep basketball clean and confront head-on anybody taking unlawful or performance-enhancing drugs.
“I want to reiterate that all teams are being treated equally and every one is being tested for drugs without fear or favour.”
FIBA is planning to carry out further tests, meaning more than 100 will take place across the 80 games of the tournament.
