FIG warning for negligence of USA and UKR

2010-09-19 10:25 FIG

Lausanne (SUI) - FIG Office, September 17, 2010: The FIG Presidential Commission has sanctioned USA Gymnastics and the Ukrainian Gymnastics Federation with a strong written warning for their failure to announce the return to competition of their gymnasts Alicia Sacramone (USA) and Natalia Godunko (UKR), six months prior to taking up competition, thus violating WADA and FIG Anti Doping Rules.

FIG has taken an exceptional decision to allow both Alicia Sacramone (Artistic Gymnastics) and Natalia Godunko (Rhythmic Gymnastics) to take up competitions immediately and accept their participation at the forthcoming World Championships.

This decision was taken to protect these two world class gymnasts from the negligence of their Federations. Both gymnasts had to undergo anti doping tests.

All FIG Member Federations have been reminded of the respective rules and informed, that no more exceptions will be made and to respect the WADA and FIG anti doping rules. The above decisions are subject to ratification by the FIG Executive Committee.
