26 May 2011, Damascus, Syria: Syria's National Committee for Combating Doping is seeking to develop its work according to the latest standards both in local championships and abroad and to expand its work with athletes.
In a statement to the Syrian Arab News Agency, national committee chairman Mohammad Kamel Shbeib said the committee's main goal was to ensure that Syrian sport was clean from performance-enhancing drugs. He added that the committee would be participating in an international conference on doping in Saudi Arabia.
The conference will discuss the state of combating the use of performance-enhancing drugs and their effect on Arab sports.
Earlier this year the committee conducted tests during the Wrestling Republic Championship, taking random samples from athletes and studying the best methods to conduct tests to facilitate dealing with athletes. (www.sana.sy)
