20 Nov 2011, Montreal, Canada: The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has praised the leadership and commitment of Mahmoud Khalifa Ali, who passed away on November 19 at the age of 51. In a letter to the family of Mahmoud and to the Olympic Council of Asia, WADA Director General David Howman and WADA’s Director of Education and Program Development, Rob Koehler, write:

“On behalf of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) we would like to express our sincere condolences for the passing of our friend Mahmoud Khalifa Ali.

“Since 2003 Mahmoud has been an active advocate of doping-free sport and is credited for the strong relationship between WADA and OCA. His leadership had a direct influence in the development of anti-doping programs in Asia.

“His commitment and desire to see clean sport was showcased through his involvement in the development of five Regional Anti-Doping Organisations involving 36 countries in Asia as well as the work carried out for the OCA.

“Mahmoud was a true friend of WADA and will be missed dearly by his friends at the Agency and by the global anti-doping community. To celebrate his life, a moment of silence will be respected at today’s WADA Foundation Board Meeting.”
